Everything you need to know about buying MiSTer FPGA add-on boards from our Manchester workshop — compatibility, power, shipping, returns and support. If your question is not answered here, email support@lightgungame.com and we will come back to you within one working day.

MiSTer FPGA is an open-source project that recreates classic computers, consoles and arcade machines in hardware, using an FPGA (field-programmable gate array) instead of software emulation. Because the original hardware behaviour is reproduced in silicon logic, you get cycle-accurate timing and genuinely low input lag compared with emulators running on a general-purpose computer.
At minimum you need:

  • A Terasic DE10-Nano board
  • A microSD card with the MiSTer FPGA software installed (32 GB recommended)
  • An SDRAM module — 32 MB, 64 MB or 128 MB depending on which cores you want to run
  • A 5V 4A regulated power supply
  • A USB hub or an I/O board for controllers and peripherals

We stock the add-on boards, SDRAM modules, cooling parts, cases and cable kits that sit on top of the DE10-Nano.

Yes. Every board we sell is hand-assembled and tested in our Manchester workshop before it is packed. We check for solder bridges and continuity, and power up boards where applicable. Nothing leaves us untested.
UK orders are dispatched within 24–48 hours and normally arrive in 1–3 working days with Royal Mail. International orders usually take 5–15 working days depending on destination and customs. Free UK shipping applies to orders over £40.
Orders shipped outside the UK may be subject to import VAT, duty and a carrier handling fee charged by your local customs authority. Those charges are the recipient’s responsibility. We declare every parcel accurately and cannot mark orders as gifts.
  • 32 MB — fine for most classic console and computer cores
  • 64 MB — required for the larger Neo Geo and CPS3 cores
  • 128 MB — needed for dual-SDRAM configurations used by a few of the most demanding arcade cores

If you are unsure, tell us which cores you want to run and we will point you at the right module.

The DE10-Nano needs a regulated 5V DC supply capable of at least 4A, with a 5.5 x 2.1 mm centre-positive barrel plug. Underpowered supplies are the single most common cause of random crashes, core loading failures and unstable video output.
MiSTer supports USB controllers, keyboards and mice out of the box. Original controllers can be connected through SNAC and BlisSTer adapters, which we stock along with the hub and bracket kits you need to fit them.

Yes — email support@lightgungame.com with your order number, a description of what happens and a photo of your setup. The vast majority of problems come down to the SD card image, the power supply or a badly seated SDRAM module, and we can usually identify the cause from a photo.
We are based in Manchester, United Kingdom, and we ship worldwide.
